memory and the maiden

that was not a watery grave;
it was a birthing hole, a pitstop
for grunions on the run.

your memories are false,
each lacy rosebud one.
whether learning ancestral lures
from your father or treehoused charms
from your daughter, all fnished drafts
are lost.
